I am a senior-level B2B writer and consultant with 25+ years of experience as a solopreneur.

I’m based in Atlanta and have collaborated with clients nationwide as a strategic content writer and consultant. My clients are C-level executives at small or medium-sized organizations or department heads at enterprises. Typically, a client will bring me in to collaborate on a big communications project or improve existing material. Then, we usually worked together for many years, with my role varying along with their needs — as their go-to content strategist and writer or as part of the team that plans and executes high-level communication and marketing strategies.

In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell famously theorized that “10,000 hours of practice” is what it takes to produce an expert. He’s gotten some backlash but I can tell you this — I am a better writer now than I was 10,000 hours of writing ago.

One of the most important things I’ve learned in all those hours of writing after journalism school is my clients benefit when I do my homework. They’re glad to be able to approve the first-draft copy with no or minor revisions.

Content that’s written from your reader’s perspective.

Every day of my career, I’ve been aware that no one has to read a single word I write. My job as a strategic content writer is to hook and keep your reader’s attention, get to the point, be easy to understand without dumbing down details, add value, and leave a great impression.

You get to be in the room without being in the room.

The vast majority of a B2B prospect’s buying decision is made without your team being present. Gartner reports about 95% of the decision happens without you being in the room, and about 45% of that is time spent researching. A buying group is also 3x more likely to be confident in its final decision when the information you have provided is perceived to be helpful.

Choosing the right words and stringing them together is only half of the assignment, maybe less. With long-form content, you’re telling a story — sometimes a complex story with lots of moving parts.

Your new content also needs to align with the other stories you’re telling, and that’s more about thinking than writing.
